 7|       An Act relating to schools; permitting Adulting 101             |
  |       to be taught as an elective in public schools as                |
 8|       funding becomes available; listing areas of                     |
  |       instruction; allowing school district to provide                |
 9|       instruction for certain grades; authorizing district            |
  |       to determine timing for instruction; permitting                 |
10|       partnership to assist in Adulting 101 instruction;              |
  |       providing for integration of instruction in existing            |
11|       course; authorizing instruction in person, virtually            |
  |       or both; specifying specialized teaching                        |
12|       certification is not required; requiring certain                |
  |       standards for implementation; providing for                     |
13|       codification; and providing an effective date.                  |

17|BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:                  |
  |                                                                       |
18|    SECTION 1.     NEW LAW     A new section of law to be codified     |
  |                                                                       |
19|in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 11-103.12 of Title 70, unless      |
  |                                                                       |
20|there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:         |
  |                                                                       |
21|    A.  Subject to the availability of funding and in addition to      |
  |                                                                       |
22|personal financial literacy education required by the Passport to      |
  |                                                                       |
23|Financial Literacy Act, Adulting 101 may be taught as an elective      |
  |                                                                       |
24|                                                                       |
  |                                                                       |

 1|course in the public schools of this state.  Adulting 101 may          |
  |                                                                       |
 2|include, but is not limited to, the following areas of instruction:    |
  |                                                                       |
 3|    1.  Nutrition programs, including cooking;                         |
  |                                                                       |
 4|    2.  Automobile maintenance;                                        |
  |                                                                       |
 5|    3.  Household repairs;                                             |
  |                                                                       |
 6|    4.  First aid;                                                     |
  |                                                                       |
 7|    5.  Etiquette, social interaction and interpersonal skills;        |
  |                                                                       |
 8|    6.  Professional development, including applying and               |
  |                                                                       |
 9|interviewing for jobs, resume writing and college readiness;           |
  |                                                                       |
10|    7.  Basic financial skills, including understanding credit         |
  |                                                                       |
11|scores and the path to home ownership;                                 |
  |                                                                       |
12|    8.  Career pathways, including college, trade schools,             |
  |                                                                       |
13|vocational programs and licensing and certificate programs;            |
  |                                                                       |
14|    9.  State and local government;                                    |
  |                                                                       |
15|    10.  Self-discipline and time management; and                      |
  |                                                                       |
16|    11.  Basics of mental health, including stress-management          |
  |                                                                       |
17|techniques.                                                            |
  |                                                                       |
18|    B.  School districts may provide instruction in Adulting 101 to    |
  |                                                                       |
19|students during grades six through twelve.  School districts may       |
  |                                                                       |
20|determine when each area of instruction listed in subsection A of      |
  |                                                                       |
21|this section may be presented to students.  The school district may    |
  |                                                                       |
22|partner with the career and technology education system to assist in   |
  |                                                                       |
23|teaching Adulting 101.                                                 |
  |                                                                       |

 1|    C.  The conditions of this statute can be accomplished through a   |
  |                                                                       |
 2|Family and Consumer Science course at the school district.  If a       |
  |                                                                       |
 3|school district does not have a Family and Consumer Science course     |
  |                                                                       |
 4|then it may be accomplished through other applicable courses.  The     |
  |                                                                       |
 5|instruction may be offered to students attending school in person,     |
  |                                                                       |
 6|virtually or a hybrid of both.  Specialized certification shall not    |
  |                                                                       |
 7|be required for teachers who are providing Adulting 101 instruction.   |
  |                                                                       |
 8|    D.  Schools shall follow LEAD FCS Standards to implement the       |
  |                                                                       |
 9|course.                                                                |
  |                                                                       |
10|    SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective November 1, 2021.      |
  |                                                                       |
